Mal-Aria

My depiction of a double planet system where the two worlds orbit so closely, they share the same name.  "Mal-Aria" is my vision of a swampy alien world where the thick atmosphere laced with hydrocarbons and sulfur compounds gives the sky and landscape an alien green glow.  These worlds are also tidally locked to one another, which means they maintain the same hemisphere facing each other at all times.  Each planet will hover endlessly in the other's sky, never seeming to move or even rotate.

I usually don't place a lot of life in my images, but I thought this was a good time to experiment with some of the alien plant life which comes installed with Vue.  I used Vue 2015 to render the landscape and planet.  Photoshop was used to layer in cloud images based on photographs I took recently.

Also, in case you’re wondering, the name of this scene comes from the Italian word mal'aria, which means "bad air".  Given the toxic mix of gases in the green atmosphere of this world, I thought it rather appropriate.  In Italy, where deadly fevers raged for centuries and killed thousands, it was a common belief that swamp fumes were responsible for these illnesses.  The mosquito-born disease we all know as malaria was thus named for this reason...
